Elon Musk, at Viva Tech event in Paris on Thursday stated that AI will eventually eliminate all jobs. Musk said, “Probably none of us will have a job,”. However, he believes this is not necessarily a bad development, reported CNN.
Musk emphasized the necessity for a “universal high income” to accompany such a scenario, which is not to be confused with universal basic income. However, he didn’t elaborate on it.
Universal Basic Income (UBI) entails the government providing a fixed amount of money to every individual, irrespective of their income level.
“There would be no shortage of goods or services,” He emphasized that AI capabilities have progressed swiftly in recent years, outpacing the ability of regulators, companies, and users to responsibly harness the technology.
Musk raised doubts about whether individuals would find emotional fulfillment in a future devoid of traditional employment opportunities.
“The question will really be one of meaning – if the computer and robots can do everything better than you, does your life have meaning?” Musk said.
Musk said, “I do think there’s perhaps still a role for humans in this – in that we may give AI meaning.”
He also cautioned parents to regulate and restrict the extent of social media consumption by their children, highlighting that these platforms are being shaped by AI focused on maximizing dopamine release.
Industry experts consistently voice concerns about the transformative impact of AI on various sectors and occupations as its presence continues to expand in the market.
